How to Make Money on Steam Market 2018

You can make money while playing games! Bear with me until the end of this post for complete comprehension.

Gaming to d ay seems to be driven by gamer community needs. Success of a certain game on a certain genre are most likely to be followed by a new game similar to the previous one, published whether by the same or different publisher. For example, Fortnite is released only 4 months after PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUND, Arena of Valor is released 3 months after Mobile Legends success in bringing MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games to mobile device.

There are millions of daily active steam users in the world, which is equal to 0.17% of today's world population . The top 3 games played are PUBG, DoTA 2, and CS : GO.
For a fast and safe trading experience, we will only buy in-game items from those 3 popular games mentioned before. The items could be sold faster because there are a lot of target market, it will be also easier for us to control the loss if the price suddenly crashed. I have a list of my personal trading rules that you must try to follow:
- DO NOT lose money
- READ rule number one!
- RECORD your trading history
- ALWAYS have a backup plan
- CHECK your loses
- DO NOT force yourself to trade
- DO NOT stick to conventional trading rules
Before you start trading in steam community market, you need to have at least 50 US$ or 740,700 IDR balance of steam wallet in your account and make sure your steam account is available to use community market and already using steam guard mobile authenticator. Now that you're all set, without further ado let's the trading begin!
For now, I choose PUBG in-game item for fast and profitable market trading. Because all of PUBG's in game item is currently non-tradeable between players, you may buy it from market or in-game store but you can only sell it to the market 7 days after. It' s a big advantage for us!
Here is the lowest buy order I've been calculating for the ongoing week, only valid until 15th November 2018 :
You may be wondering, How will you get profit after 15% steam cut? Will the price go down before I can sell it to the market? The answers for those questions are YES and NO!
YES, because steam didn't cut you 15% from the sales you've made. You don't believe me? Let's do the math!
On 31st October 2018, I purchased an Aviator Sunglasses which cost me 25,134 IDR / 1,69 US$ from original 25,200 IDR / 1,70 US$ buy order. The balance of steam wallet the seller get will automatically divided for 3 receiver:
- The seller will receive 21,855 IDR / 1,70 US$ net. steam wallet balance from the sales
- PUBG will get 10% from your net. (2,185 IDR / 0,14 US$)
- Steam will cut 5% fee (1,092 IDR / 0,07US$)
If the seller received 21,855 IDR / 1,7 US$, it means he only got (21,855/25,134 x 100%) around 87% from the sales. It's only 13% cut from the sales, not 15% like what most of steam users are already know. Always remember this!
NO, because the buy order i gave you is already the lowest and magical number for the ongoing week. Lets check it out!
The lowest median sale price of Aviator Sunglasses on 31st October 2018 is 26,682 IDR / 1,80 US$, yet my fulfilled buy order is 25,200 IDR / 1,70 US$, I saved 1,482 IDR / 0,1US$ instantly. Magic? It can only happen because I calculated its equilibrium price first. That's the secret!
Today, I sold the Aviator Sunglasses we got from 31st October 2018 with 36,100 IDR / 2,43 US$ sell order and sold out only in a few minutes.
How much will I get after the sales? There are two things we need to know:
- Investment in 1 Aviator Sunglasses on 31st October 2018 : 21,855 IDR / 1,47 US$
- Net after sales on 8th November 2018 : 31,397 IDR / 2,11 US$
Profit(P) = Net(N)— Investment(I)
Profit(P) = 31,397 IDR — 21,855 IDR = 9,542 IDR / 0,64 US$
Profit from Investment (PFI) = Profit(P) / Investment(I) x 100%
Profit from Investment (PFI) = 9,542 IDR / 21,855 x 100% = 43,66%
I can't promise each item's Profit from Investment will always be 43,66%, but I can promise that you will at least make around 10% — 25% range of profit a week. It's almost 40% — 100% profit from your steam wallet in a month! You still need more proof? Let's do the math for Suit Coat (Gray) PFI!
Investment (I) = 60,000 IDR / 4,05 US$
Sales (S) = 88,600 IDR / 5,98 US$
Net (N) = 88,600 IDR x 87% = 77,082 IDR / 5,20 US$
Profit (P) = 77,082 IDR — 60,000 IDR = 17,082 IDR / 1,15 US$
Profit from Investment (PFI) = 17,082 IDR / 60,000 IDR x 100% = 28,47%
I always record my market trading history on my google spreadsheet everyday to keep control of every loss or profit I made every month. You can check it out here. Here are few things you need to know to understand my spreadsheet :
- All of the green rows are sold and profit
- All of the red rows are sold and loss
- SUB in "Marketable" column means I buy cheaper in game item and sold the previous in game item that has higher prices to gain profit (substitute price effect). We will discuss this in the next post.
- All of the non colored rows are in game items that I haven't sold.
Some of you who read this may think, why should I waste my time for merely few dollar? My answer is, you should value your time spent on a game. And do you think it's merely a few dollar? You need to look at the big picture my friend! You might think a few dollar won't worth the huss, right? Below, I'll give you the projection table of your 50 US$ or 740,700 IDR steam wallet investment within 3 months. You will find this table at the spreadsheet I gave you before. You can simulate this calculation with any amount of steam wallet you have, just put your wallet in the green column and press Enter, it will automatically projects your profit for the next 3 months, you can drag it longer to see your year's projection. I put only 15% or 0,15 in weekly profit so you can see stable outcome. If you make more than 15%, you can consider that as a bonus for you.
I won't forget my fellow Indonesians, here's your profit projection from 740,700 IDR steam wallet investment within 3 months.
After three months, you will make roughly 6 times from your original 50 US$ or 740,700 IDR steam wallet investment. Believe me, three months will be passed in the blink of an eye. Imagine how much money you have wasted in a year and so on if you don't start to do this right now.
